“I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I CLIMBED TO THE TOP OF THE SLIDE AT THE PARK BUT THEN I FROZE BECAUSE IT FELT SO HIGH. ALL THE KIDS WERE GATHERED NEAR THE BOTTOM AND STARTED SHOUTING, “SLIDE! SLIDE! SLIDE!” AFTER A WHILE, MY MOM SUGGESTED THAT I TURN AROUND AND CLIMB DOWN AND THAT IT WAS NO BIG DEAL. BUT I COULDN’T! IT HAD TAKEN ME TWENTY-SEVEN YEARS TO HAVE THE GUTS TO CLIMB THIS THING. NO WAY I WAS GIVING UP NOW!”
